10 REASONS WHY ROCK IS KING IN 2014

So if you think about it, musically, 2014 is still sadly all about the drop. And honestly, how are you and everyone else not fucken over it? It was a fun little fad guys. I never got into the drop but that said, sure I liked Electro and I still love me some good old fashioned House music. I still do and I don’t think that it’s wrong to like it either. Then there’s the endless Indie and Pop numbers, again nothing wrong with them. But good god is it all so boring now. And you know what? I think we are all over it. But thank god, Rock is back baby and I’ve go 10 reasons why.

10 reasons you say? What can they be? Well it’s stupidly simple. 10 Albums, 10 Bands, 10 reasons to start wearing all black clothing and Converse sneakers again. Cos you’re gonna get sweaty and you need one-off clothing items, you see. I have spent 4 months in the biggest music hub of the world and learnt two things.

1. No human isn’t into live music.

2. Nothing sounds better live than a screaming guitar riff. Nothing.

NB: These are not two of the ten reasons rock is king. Keep reading…

I have been lucky enough to see six of these bands live and to have my dreams of watching DFA1979 shattered by ticket re-sellers (the bane of all music lovers), so I can personally vouch for the majority of these bands. The reason I say this is because the one thing that they all have in common is the ability to send their audience into a blissful rampage of musical joy. And there is little doubt that the others cannot do the same. Now you may look at me and say, “No one loses their shit to the kind of music Mac DeMarco makes”.

Wrong, Motherfucker! People go apeshit because there isn’t anyone quite like Mac onstage. Even The War On Drugs change the temperature of the air with a few chord progressions. I’ve been trampled in a 6000 people crowded tent while watching Disclosure, but it doesn’t come close to watching DZ Deathrays tear a hole into 100+ people at The Shackwell Arms. (On that note, it’s always good to watch these kinds of bands in a smaller venue). The raw energy that bands lay down is reciprocated and distributed straight back at the bands. What happens is an atomic explosion of enthrallment.

Okay enough with the word bullshit. Below is the list, in no particular order, of all 10 delicious albums that will worm their ways into your heart and make you long for more. Some of it is what you will expect, some of it not. I implore you to find a way to listen to all of these albums. If you click on them it will take you straight to the album on iTunes and you listen there. Heck, buy it there cos believe me all of these albums are worth your time. What are you waiting for get clicking…

Now if you feel like I left anything off this list (that’s not Beatenberg, cos even though it’s one of my favorite albums of the year, it’s still pop music), please comment below and tell us why and how it’s awesome and deserves to be on the list.
