‘No Cameras Allowed’ Is The How-To-Fake-It-As-Press Documentary [Video]

I’ve been lucky enough (if that’s what you want to call it) to have been press at most events I’ve gone to as an adult. On occasions where I wasn’t though, I’ve learned that a little pushing, a few confident strides and the right sort of flashing of your wrist can get you pretty far pretty easily. Marcus Haney learned similar lessons at some point, then used what he’d learned to get much further than I ever have. He managed to convince enough people that he was press at events and major festivals that he got on stage with some of his favorite artists, and then he went on tour with them.

There’s no glamor in music journalism. Well, at least there isn’t in South African music journalism. Everyone saw Almost Famous when they were 17 and thought it was gonna be awesome to hang out with bands and follow them around but it’s mostly not all that glamorous. Imagine every night was the night that the band breaks up and Russell takes acid. It gets old. Still, there’s something intriguing about seeing how far someone could take it if they really wanted to hang out with famous people. In the case of the No Cameras Allowed trailer, we’re really looking at the opposite of a documentary in some ways, since we’ve got this guy documenting his own desire to softball his favorite artists; to live the American dream of being famous by association. What’s interesting is that he managed to pull it off.
