Thug Thursdays: Sibot & Wu-Tang

by Kat Maponyane

“Thug” has many faces and comes in different forms. It may not necessarily always be Rap/Hip Hop and RnB. It will be old and also new. Hell, I may even throw some country into the pot, or whatever I deem to be “thug”. Depending on my mood, every week I’ll be bringing you my selection of the worst, best, funniest, weirdest videos whether you may have seen them or not.

I’d already done my write-up for this week and was about to send it in until I came across Sibot’s EP promo. I watched this video, popped off to the WC to have a crank, jizzed in my dindies, then came back for round two. YOH!

DJ Fuck/Thugplugger, or whatever you choose to call him, has been the ultimate South African electronic music scene game-changer for more than a minute now. This is from the days of Knights of the Round, Max Normal, Constructus, Grimm Tiny, The Real Estate Agents and Playdoe, to the current solo performing monster he has evolved into today. Pay attention to his impeccable producing skills & unparalleled artistic talent. Nobody can do it better!

If I sound like a dick-sucking groupie for his music, that’s because I am, and have been ever since I can remember. I mean it’s hard not to be – I’ve seen girls produce waterfalls at the hands of his finger-banging mastery.

This EP isn’t all hype; the proof will be in the pudding. Don’t download it, buy it, own it, kill it every day and night, then throw it away if you so please.

Wu-Tang Clan didn’t make songs, they created anthems. It’s pointless in me wasting words by listing the names of arguably the most influential and best rap group ever, because in all honesty, you should know them.

Black and yellow have been the official colours of rap long before people caught onto Wiz Khalifa and eons before anyone who claims to be a fan of hip-hop in its current form was born. Fuck songs like ‘Gravel Pit ‘, which most people say is their favorite WTC track (my white friends, of course). I’m talking ’C.R.E.A.M’, ‘Can It Be So Simple’, ‘Protect Ya Neck’ and of course, the best song to never have a chorus: ‘Triumph’

Take me out to any club in any part in this country and Nicholas ‘Original Hipster’ Christowitz will testify that I drop everything to get on the dance floor and break shit down to 90s thug rap. If you love music in all its forms, do yourself a favor, get schooled in how good music really was and act like you know.

Wu- Tang forever (RIP ODB)
