Tim Burton, Kevin Smith & More Talk About Their Failed Superhero Movie In ‘The Death Of Superman Lives’

You may juuuuust remember us mentioning a Kickstarter last year that saw John Schnepp trying to interview Tim BurtonKevin Smith and more regarding their failed attempt at a superhero movie from the 90s, Superman Lives, which would have starred Nicolas Cage as Superman. Well, Schnepp not only got his funding, he managed to pull it off. Sure, the titles look amateurish, but it’s the story that’s going to make or break this one, and the fact that Schnepp got to sit down with both Smith and Burton, as well as many of the movie’s production team, means we should get a helluva story. There’s one notable absence though…

Where’s Nic Cage? Is it really The Death of Superman Lives without the man who would’ve brought Superman to the screen?

The trailer features some test footage of Cage in his Superman suit, including a shot I’ve never seen before of him actually flying and landing, and it looks surprisingly graceful. The other stuff includes notes on the story, where it was headed, and the strange new design for a Superman suit that apparently helps the character regenerate because he’s lost his powers. Sounds intriguing. I’m definitely excited to see it.

Oh and, if you’ve never heard Kevin Smith talk about his experience writing Superman Lives before, you need to sit down and watch this clip where he tells a captive audience the hilarious story, involving producers who can’t read, a Superman who can’t fly, and a giant spider in the third act.
