Track of the Day: Royal Canoe – Bathtubs

It’ finally Friday and, to celebrate, here’s one of the best and brightest new bands to come out of Canada. Man, I love Canada. In my books it goes: Australia, New York, Canada and the UK. Just about all my favorite music comes from those four places. So when I hear about a band or artist coming from there they have a slight advantage over someone from, say, Sweden or France. Royal Canoe is an example of why. Having just released their first EP, Extended Play, with singles like ‘Blood Rush’ and ‘Hold Onto Metal’, the sound just devastates you even as it reels you in. This six-piece are currently making a rather big name for themselves and we should all just be pushing them to everyone we know like Canadian doctors push medical marijuana. I chose my favorite song off Extended Play, ‘Bathtubs’, which the band wrote about the 40-odd bathtubs they have to pass in the hallway in the building they have band practice in. Sounds stupid, right? Well, the song is far from stupid. I’ve also included some video of a live performance so you can see how amazing this band really is.
