Little Dragon to Blow Us Away on Spring Day

You already know this, but Swedish electro-soul act Little Dragon is coming to South Africa in a couple months, courtesy adidas Originals Live Performances and we-are-awesome Events. We’ve got the skinny on the band, some tracks for you and of course, details about the event.

And we’re just saying this cos we like you; keep your eye on the site for ticket giveaways in the not-too-distant future.

JUMP!

The band’s pretty much followed the path that every guy or gal sitting in their bedroom, imagining a career in music, dreams up: Yukimi Nagano, Fredrik Wallin, Håkan Wirenstrand and Erik Bodin were best buds in high school, making music all the way back in the 1990s. “Our way of spending time together was listening to, or playing music,” Yukimi recalls. The band eventually moved into an art collective in their hometown of Gothenburg, and this is where they recorded all their albums and started calling themselves “Little Dragon”.

Little Dragon have released three albums, including a self-titled debut, my favorite Machine Dreams, and 2011′s Ritual UnionThey’ve collaborated with some acclaimed industry heavyweights like Gorillaz, Raphael Saadiq (Nagano sang on his new Stone Rollin’ album), DJ Shadow and Big Boi. Now they’re coming here and hoping to blow us away with their live performance.

While their recordings are always impressive, it is in the live setting where the Dragon really comes alive. Nearly as striking is the culturally diverse crowd that somehow turns up in every city to see them. “I think that’s kind of ideal,” Yukimi says of Little Dragon’s eclectic fan base. “That’s how, if I wished for a crowd, I would want it.”

I think we can all agree, Jo’burg won’t disappoint.
